How To Master The Perfect Tuck

Perfectly tucking in your shirt is easier than you think and it can elevate your look from ordinary to polished. We have the tips to help you effortlessly tuck like a fashion stylist!

Full Tuck

Let’s start off with the classic full tuck. The full tuck is figure flattering and accentuates the smallest part of your waist when paired with high waisted skirts, pants, and jeans.

While most of us might have this one mastered, here are some tips to get the styling just right:

1.Start by tucking in the shirt from the front and work your way to the back.

2.Smooth the fabric as you go to avoid excess bulk and creases.

3.For a more relaxed, yet put together look, slightly raise your arms to gently loosen the shirt.

Front or French Tuck

The front (or French) tuck is one of our stylists’ top fashion tips and you will often see it referenced in your stylist’s outfit notes. We love this variation of tucking because it can be done with a variety of shirt styles and instantly defines and slims your waistline. The front tuck transforms a boxy style top or oversized sweater from bulky to figure flattering.

If you’re just starting to dip your toe into tucking in your shirts, the front tuck is the perfect starting point! Contrary to popular belief, the front tuck does not add bulk or draw attention to your midsection. Instead, it creates a waist and lengthens your legs.

To master the front tuck, here are some of our foolproof tips:

1.Take the front of your top and tuck it into your pants or skirt

2.Leave the sides and back of the top untucked.

3.To create a more slimming look, loosen the front of the top a little bit.

Half or One-Sided Tuck

The half tuck is a chic, relaxed style that is frequently modeled in street style looks. The purposefully undone look adds a casual vibe to your outfit while still forming a waistline. It’s the perfect tuck for more informal settings such as working from home or on the weekends. This tuck is most commonly created with button down shirts. Use the following tips to try it for yourself:

1.Unbutton your blouse or shirt from the bottom to the top of your waistband.

2.Take the side of the shirt with the buttons and tuck it into your bottoms. (Using the side without the buttons can create an unwanted bulge).

3.Leave everything else untucked, for a slightly polished, stylish look.
