How to keep busy during the corona virus

The Perfect Home Project: Closet Organization

With practically everything being cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak and with self-isolation going into full effect, the majority of us are beginning to go a bit stir-crazy.

A productive way to channel your energy is to check a few items off your to-do list. Why not start with cleaning and organizing your closet? It is spring after all!

We understand a closet cleanse isn’t the easiest of tasks, so we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you accomplish the job with ease.

How to keep busy during the corona virus

Divide and conquer

First things first, start by separating your clothes into 3 distinct piles: donate, keep and storage. Doing so will create clear boundaries and keep the process organized.

1 year rule

If you haven’t worn an item of clothing or used something in more than a year, then you probably won’t miss it. Use this opportunity to donate the item if it’s still in good condition.

Toss duplicates

Have an unnecessary amount of skinny jeans or little black dresses? If the answer is yes, scale down to the styles you absolutely can’t live without. Ditch (donate) the rest.

Does it play well with others?

The items you want to keep in your closet are the staples pieces you can incorporate all year long with the both basic and trendy items.

Do I love the way I look wearing it?

Does it make you feel great? Do you feel confident wearing it? If the answer is yes, keep it! Anything that makes you feel your best should stay. End of story.

Clothes that have sentimental value

The jewelry your grandmother gave you and your beloved college sweater have sentimental value that can’t be replaced. There are some things money just can’t buy. These sentimental pieces should be tucked away and stored in a safe place.

Remove out of season items

A no brainer, anything that can’t be worn in the current season should be stored away (we recommend shelves and bins). Doing so will significantly cut down closet clutter and in turn, reduce the stress of figuring out what to wear each morning.

A few ways your Front Door Fashion stylist can help:

  1. Have an item you really like, but don’t wear it as often as you’d like? Ask your stylist for help! Our stylists can take items you already own and style outfits around the item for you.
  2. Missing some staples or realizing some of your staples need to be updated? Ask your stylist to include them in your next box. We’ve got plenty of staple blazers in basic colors, basic jean styles, basic layering tees, and little black dresses.
  3. Does everything you own look the same? Needless to say, it’s time to order a box to have your stylist push you out of your comfort zone just a little.

We hope you find these strategies useful and find peace in reducing clutter! Happy cleaning and organizing!

We carry designer merchandise, so our opening price point for items is $100-$150. We do carry items up to $400-$450.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, and have a great day!

I’m loving all these tips in these different sections! Thanks for taking the time and effort to put them together for our viewing. I’ve done SEVERAL closet culls and it’s hard , but yet so freeing! I live in a large home and have several closets just for myself. So, that being said can be a problem, both good and bad. I still could cull down even more, and I’m working on it. My goal is having a great capsule wardrobe that I LOVE!!!
